Commemorate Your Last Year of High School

Senior year is an exciting and memorable time for you. Your last varsity game, last spring dance, last exam, and finally, the big day, graduation!

The one thing that will record all the activities of this important time, and let you relive them for years to come, is the yearbook. Your senior portrait is your personal part of the yearbook and something you should give serious thought to.

Mark Lawrence Photographers is a local award-winning portrait studio. Our reputation demands that our work be of the highest quality. Each year over 5000 area seniors come to our studios to have their Senior Portrait taken.

Senior Portrait Sessions

A session fee is paid at the time when the session is booked and covers the cost of the photographer's time. Portraits are priced separately.

A combination of poses are taken at all sessions. Poses will be a mixture of head and shoulders, three-quarter, and full length. Poses can be smiling or serious - your choice.

Seniors FAQs

  • What should I wear for my Senior Portrait?

What you should wear for your senior portrait is your choice. Generally, most seniors wear something dressy for their indoor studio poses and something more casual for their outdoor environmental poses.

When choosing your portrait session attire, keep in mind that your senior portrait will more than likely be displayed in your parent's home in the years ahead. Seek their opinion on what looks good on you. Avoid wearing sleeveless blouses or shirts and clothing that does not fit well.

  • What colors photograph the best?

For indoor studio portraits, medium to dark colors photograph best. Avoid pastels as well as plaids and stripes. Earth tones such as medium to dark greens, browns, blues, magentas, and burgundies photograph quite well.

For outdoor portraits, earth tones such as blues, greens, browns, etc., photograph exceptionally well.

  • What type of pose will my school allow in the yearbook?

Most schools with some exceptions (you will be notified if your school is an exception) allow either an indoor or an outdoor environmental portrait in the yearbook. As the photo in the yearbook is rather small, we strongly suggest you select a head and shoulder pose for your yearbook choice.

  • Will your photographer take a variety of poses?

Yes. Our photographers will ask if you have any special requests and discuss with you the options.

We generally take some smiles, some serious with a variety of head and shoulder, three quarter, and full view poses. Be sure you let the photographer know if you have any special requests.

  • Can I be photographed in different outfits?

We suggest more traditional or dress up attire for your indoor portraits and more casual attire for your environmental poses. An additional outfit can be added to any session for an extra $20.

  • I wear glasses - shall I wear them when I have my portrait taken?

Yes. However if you are near sighted and have a heavy prescription, it would be wise before your portrait session to remove your lenses or borrow an empty matching frame from your optician. This will eliminate the glare from the glass caused by reflective light.

Tinted glasses photograph darker than they appear.

  • Will my yearbook photo and my finished portraits be retouched?

All facial blemishes are removed at your request at no additional charge. There is an additional charge for removing braces or correcting discolored or chipped teeth.

  • Can I be photographed with my own props?

Yes. As part of your session, we can take some of your poses with items that are special to you whether they be musical instruments, sports uniforms, hobby items or your

    bike or car.

Small pets are welcome and can be photographed with you in our environmental studio.

  • What about my hair?

You should not change your hair style to something dramatically different just for your senior session. Chances are you will not be happy. Washing your hair just prior to the session removes all the oil and long hair becomes hard to manage. We suggest that just prior to your session, you put a bit of hair spray on your hand and brush the hand against your hair. This will help the hair to stay in place.

If your hair is worn long and parted in the center and projects from the face - be aware that it is difficult to get the proper lighting onto your face. Lighting can cause shadows on the face from the projected hair.

  • When will I get to see my proofs?

The day of your photo session you will be given a date and time to view your proofs. We suggest the appointment to view your proofs be made at the convenience of one of your parents. It is not necessary for the senior to return for this appointment unless you so desire.

At the appointment to view your proofs, our consultant will explain about what can be retouched, color corrected and cropped and how the various portrait packages offered by the studio can be assembled.

Should you wish to take your proofs home prior to making decisions you may do so with a $60 deposit which is credited to your order or is refundable at the time your order is placed.

  • If I don't like my proofs, can I have my pictures re-taken?

Think with a positive attitude. Properly prepare yourself for the session by following the clothing colors and other recommendations we have offered and we will use all of our skills to make a portrait of you that will be most pleasing to you and your family.

Our request for re-sessions is less than 2%. In the small chance that we can’t get an expression that is pleasing to you, we will be happy to take a few additional poses at no charge.

We are looking forward to making your senior portrait session an enjoyable experience for you.
